Microwave photonics is an interdisciplinary area that studies the interaction between microwave and optical signals, for applications such as sensor networks, radar and satellite communications. Many of these application areas demand ever-increasing values for speed, bandwidth and dynamic range while at the same time require devices that are small, lightweight and low-power, exhibiting large tunability and strong immunity to electromagnetic interference. The subject of this thesis is the project of tunable optical tunable time delay line(OTTDL) for beamformers. Beamformers are circuits that control the direction of a signal transmitted by a phased-array antenna. In this work, after a introduction of microwave photonics and its major functions and today's state-of- art OTTDL, the configuration has been chosen. Simulation results relating to the this configuration are reported and discussed.
