In this thesis work we will discuss the process of inspecting a single olive tree by drone in order to identify the possible contagion from Xylella Fastidiosa. The thesis will explain the tools used for the trajectory planning phase for the inspection and for the image processing phase. In particular, for the first task, the communication between the ROS and MATLAB environment will be used to build a helical trajectory, checking the orientation of the drone. For the second task, the Object Detection API of TensorFlow 2 and Colab will be used for the training of neural networks able to discriminate sick leaves from healthy leaves.

Abstract

In this thesis work we will discuss the process of inspecting a single olive tree by drone in order to identify the possible contagion from Xylella Fastidiosa. The thesis will explain the tools used for the trajectory planning phase for the inspection and for the image processing phase. In particular, for the first task, the communication between the ROS and MATLAB environment will be used to build a helical trajectory, checking the orientation of the drone. For the second task, the Object Detection API of TensorFlow 2 and Colab will be used for the training of neural networks able to discriminate sick leaves from healthy leaves.
