For some time now, the idea that video games have negative effects on the education and psychophysical health of children has been overtaken by a well-established evidence of the positive effects that involvement in this playful activity has on education and psychophysical well-being of the user. Thanks to their high ability to attract attention, they are useful tools to develop cognitive faculties, to increase the time dedicated to learning and to improve motivation and concentration. In addition, they offer potential benefits to psycho-physical health, such as increasing knowledge on issues related to health care and the ability to fight a sedentary lifestyle. It is, therefore, the intent of this thesis to demonstrate how video games in the medical field provide a wide range of examples of innovative ways of using playful expedients to improve psychophysical health and to help patients to be more adherent to treatment regimes. This thesis also analyzes the video game tool as a particular case of digital product, based on principles of technological and persuasive innovation. A set of design guidelines is presented to incorporate the features of guided learning into the video game development process. As a practical example of this study, an educational video game with rehabilitation purposes is designed, aimed at hospitalized patients in pediatric age.

Abstract
As a practical example of this study, an educational video game with rehabilitation purposes is designed, aimed at hospitalized patients in pediatric age.I documenti in UNITESI sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
