Movable bridges (i.e., bascule bridges, lift bridges and swing bridges) are very critical elements because they allow to the traffic to cross active waterways granting passage to ships that would otherwise be blocked by the structure. Therefore, the reliability assessment as well as the health monitoring of these bridge structures are challenging issues and deserve a lot of attentions as the socio-economic consequences due to structural failures and/or temporary out-of-service conditions might be invaluable. In this perspective, experimental and numerical methodologies can be successfully integrated in order to obtain an experimentally-calibrated model, thus ensuring more consistent decision processes. Moving from these considerations, this thesis addresses the optimal sensors placement for the dynamic monitoring of a historical swing bridge in Taranto. After a brief description of the bridge, the adopted geometrical and mechanical models are presented. Subsequently, the considered strategies for sensors positioning are illustrated.

Abstract
Subsequently, the considered strategies for sensors positioning are illustrated.I documenti in UNITESI sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
