Abstract

Procurement today represents a strategic hub within local and global supply chains and becomes the main player at the table of the company's most competitive decisions such as, for example, sourcing choices and make-or buy decisions. However, contrary to what happened when the functions were separated, everything is done in a synergistic and collaborative way rather than conflictual and competitive. The thesis aims to use the case study of a well-known company in the steel industry to highlight the current processes and application architecture in the As-Is scenario in the procurement field and identify the main opportunities for improvement. The company in question is a steel group that offers a diverse variety of highly technological products and services, on a global scale and for reasons of non-disclosure of sensitive data, it will be called Sider Group. The focus of the thesis work will be the prioritization of improvement opportunities and evolutionary initiatives to be implemented based on the cost / benefit ratio and importance / urgency. After a complete analysis of the As-Is scenario, in fact, the tools of the Costs / Benefits Matrix and the Eisenhower Matrix will be used with the ultimate aim of demonstrating why it is necessary to intervene on the activities considered critical, understand the problem and quantify its criticality. The methodological approach and therefore the path that the project will follow, will initially be divided into two fundamental steps: 1. the Quick Assessment; 2. the Design of the Operating Model to tend. For the Design of the Operating Model to tend, in order to define processes, architecture, systems and organization in the procurement field, it is necessary to jointly design the To-Be alternative, leveraging on industry best practices and on the opportunities offered by modern technologies. Therefore, it will be necessary to specify the expected applications, with related functionalities and data flows between the different applications, and the data model to tend.
