This thesis analyzes the integration of augmented reality (AR) in the architectural heritage conservation process, with a specific focus on the development of the "Conserve" application. The primary objective is to demonstrate how AR can optimize the management and visualization of restoration projects, increasing the efficiency and precision of operations. Initially, the state of the art on traditional and innovative methods for the recovery of built heritage is examined. Traditional techniques, which emphasize the use of original materials and historical construction techniques, are compared with modern approaches which include the use of new technologies and materials. Particular attention is paid to the importance of collaboration between designers and conservation authorities, both in Italy and internationally. The second part of the thesis focuses on augmented reality technologies and their application potential in the construction sector. We describe the fundamental components of an AR system, current challenges and future developments. The integration of AR into projects developed with the Building Information Modeling (BIM) methodology is discussed in detail, highlighting how these technologies can be combined to create a more efficient and intuitive workflow. The central part of the thesis is dedicated to the case study of the development of the "Conserva" application, the project of which was divided into different phases: requirements analysis, application architecture design, user interface development and technical implementation . Each phase is described with attention to detail, highlighting the challenges encountered and the solutions adopted. A concrete case is analysed, the recovery of the former Capuchin convent in Ruvo di Puglia, illustrating how AR can be used to improve the understanding and management of the restoration project. The thesis concludes with a summary of the results obtained, which demonstrate how the use of AR can transform the way we interact with built heritage. The practical and theoretical implications of using AR in restoration are discussed, highlighting the benefits in terms of efficiency and precision. Finally, possible future directions for research and development of AR applications in the fields of architecture and conservation are proposed. The methodological choices made during the work include a combination of theoretical research, case study analysis and practical development of AR applications. The research tools used include 3D modeling software, AR development platforms and BIM methodology. This multidisciplinary approach has allowed us to explore in depth the potential of AR in the context of architectural restoration, providing a significant contribution to both professional practice and academic literature.
