The concept of Lawful Interception (LI) was introduced in 4G mobile communications, but the transition to 5G technology has involved significant changes in the LI procedure. These changes are due to the virtualization of network components in the new generation of networks, as well as the development of end-to-end encryption, which makes it difficult for authorized entities to access and analyze the content of traffic. To solve this challenge, the Key Escrow technique was introduced in this LI architecture design by extending the 3GPP LI standard. This technique involves storing a decryption key with a third entity, with the objective of allowing authorized entities to decrypt and analyze the intercepted traffic. However, this architecture has been successfully implemented using open-source tools such as Open5GS and UERANSIM to reconstruct the 5G network topology. To emulate the LI procedure, the OpenLI tools were used. It is important to note that in the context of modern 5G networks, the interception of VoIP calls presents additional challenges. VoIP often uses advanced encryption technologies, and network virtualization can further complicate the interception process. During the testing phase, the impact of VoIP call duration on the timing of the process was also evaluated.
