The aim of this thesis is to design two communication systems between drone and GCS in order to evaluate their performance. The first developed system provides communication via the SiK v3 radio device at the frequency of 433 MHz. The second system, on the other hand, is based on Wi-Fi communication, operating at the frequency of 2.4 GHz. Both systems use the MAVLINK protocol as the communication protocol. The main communication data analysed relate to the value of RSSI and SNR; in addition, the maximum connection distance reached with the two systems is assessed. This work also provides experimentation in a real-world scenario, focusing on data exchange and the maximum connecting distance of the two systems.

Abstract

DESIGN AND PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS OF MAVLINK AND WIFI COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS FOR INTERNET OF DRONES APPLICATIONS
