The aim of this thesis work is to take stock of the situation regarding plastic packaging worldwide, but especially at the European level, stated the last Proposal on Packaging and Packaging Waste published in November 2022 by the European Commission which has set high standards in plastic recycling targets. Given the increasing number of opaque PET bottles used in the dairy industry - mainly milk bottles - and currently placed on the market, the focus has been set on the creation of three different scenarios that could define three sorting process alternatives for the aforementioned packaging, which have to be sent to the recycling plant in order to complete the whole process. Finally, the recyclability assessment of an opaque white PET milk bottle has been defined on the basis of existing analyses concerning other types of packaging, and the guidelines issued by European bodies, but not yet validated by the European Commission's JRC (Joint Research Centre), have been discussed, as they are subject to further study and refinement.

Abstract
The aim of this thesis work is to take stock of the situation regarding plastic packaging worldwide, but especially at the European level, stated the last Proposal on Packaging and Packaging Waste published in November 2022 by the European Commission which has set high standards in plastic recycling targets. Given the increasing number of opaque PET bottles used in the dairy industry - mainly milk bottles - and currently placed on the market, the focus has been set on the creation of three different scenarios that could define three sorting process alternatives for the aforementioned packaging, which have to be sent to the recycling plant in order to complete the whole process. Finally, the recyclability assessment of an opaque white PET milk bottle has been defined on the basis of existing analyses concerning other types of packaging, and the guidelines issued by European bodies, but not yet validated by the European Commission's JRC (Joint Research Centre), have been discussed, as they are subject to further study and refinement.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
