In this thesis work we will work in a multidisciplinary engineering field, that is, railway diagnostics carried out through the use of diagnostic trains and drones, which represent one of the most advanced technologies in the field of automation. Specifically, the work carried out focuses on the crucial phase of re-entry of the drone on the diagnostic train, once the inspection is finished. The focus is therefore on the optimization of train-drone interaction and the control of the drone in the pursuit of the train and the landing on moving train. The objective of the thesis is therefore the resolution of an optimal non-linear control problem, aimed at minimizing the distance between train and drone, satisfying the kinematic, dynamic and path constraints imposed. For this purpose, the drone can be properly controlled in the two phases via the Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) and a combination of Extendend Kalman Filter (EKF) and Model Predictive Control (MPC). First, we try to analyze the trajectory tracking through the LQR algorithm, which has many limitations and little efficiency. The EKF instead, is implemented to coordinate the landing phase and estimate the final point of arrival on the train. For the control of the drone, instead, the MPC is used, which shows strength and precision for the pursuit of the trajectory and for landing on the train. The highly used predictive algorithm, both in the academic and industrial field, due to its remarkable ability to operate with highly non-linear problems and constraints of varying nature, is implemented in MATLAB environment and solved with the toolbox for non-linear programming casadi. To evaluate the efficiency of the implemented control framework, the results of the simulations performed are presented and critically analyzed through graphs and tables comparing both the computational performance and the system response to the input variation.

Abstract
To evaluate the efficiency of the implemented control framework, the results of the simulations performed are presented and critically analyzed through graphs and tables comparing both the computational performance and the system response to the input variation.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
