In its first phase, this work presents a biomechanical analysis of the movements that characterise a violinist, focusing on the individual aspects that differentiate the right hand from the left hand during musical performance. Subsequently, detailed information is provided on the various prosthetic solutions that are possible today. The description mentions cosmetic passive prostheses, while active prostheses are dealt with in more detail, focusing on myoelectrically controlled prostheses. Afterwards, two research projects are proposed, focusing on a prosthesis for holding the bow of a violinist and a robotic hand that can finger the violin keyboard. After this discussion, which constitutes the core of the paper, neuroprostheses are mentioned and new frontiers of research on upper limb prostheses are proposed.

Abstract
In its first phase, this work presents a biomechanical analysis of the movements that characterise a violinist, focusing on the individual aspects that differentiate the right hand from the left hand during musical performance. Subsequently, detailed information is provided on the various prosthetic solutions that are possible today. The description mentions cosmetic passive prostheses, while active prostheses are dealt with in more detail, focusing on myoelectrically controlled prostheses. Afterwards, two research projects are proposed, focusing on a prosthesis for holding the bow of a violinist and a robotic hand that can finger the violin keyboard. After this discussion, which constitutes the core of the paper, neuroprostheses are mentioned and new frontiers of research on upper limb prostheses are proposed.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
