The spread of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) is opening up new possibilities for Business Process Management (BPM), a field in which many activities still rely on the manual intervention of experts. This thesis addresses the topic along a twofold track: a systematic review of the literature and the development of an applied prototype in collaboration with Openwork S.r.l. The review, conducted according to a Systematic Literature Review protocol on the Scopus bibliographic database and extended to Openwork's main competing platforms, maps the contributions across the six phases of the BPM lifecycle, identifying the areas most covered by research, the proposed approaches, and the open challenges. On these foundations builds the technical contribution of this work: the design, tuning, and evaluation of a prototype based on a RAG pipeline that, starting from natural language descriptions, generates process management solution models on the Jamio platform. Experimentation on a real use case confirms its feasibility, outlines its limitations, and grounds the prospects for evolution towards a multi-agent architecture.

Abstract

GENAI FOR BUSINESS PROCESS MANAGEMENT: THE JAMIO OPENWORK CASE STUDY IN THE DESIGN PHASE
