One of the most effective and most frequently adopted techniques in stabilizing landslide slopes, or with reduced safety margins, is that of drainage; this mitigation system aims to modify the pore pressure regime in the slope so as to obtain an increase in the effective stresses, and therefore in the shear resistance, along the potential sliding surface. The possible drainage systems are various: trenches, wells, tunnels, sub-horizontal drains. The choice of the most appropriate type is made, case by case, depending on factors such as the depth of the sliding surface, the plano-altimetric trend of the area to be stabilized, the possible presence of artefacts on the surface. In general, in the design of drainage interventions it is necessary to verify the effectiveness of the intervention on the stability of the landslide bodies. For this purpose, a numerical calculation of the filtration in the slope can be performed, which contemplates the presence of the drainage system, in order to determine the piezometric structure to be implemented in the analyzes of the limit equilibrium of the landslide bodies delimited by specific slip surfaces for the evaluation of the safety factor. With reference to a real case study, in the following thesis work the effectiveness of deep drainage interventions for the stabilization of a paleo-landslide was evaluated. The case study analyzed concerns the western side of the municipality of Chieuti, affected by a long-standing landslide process, which invests part of the inhabited center causing evident signs of instability on buildings, roads and infrastructures. The study of the landslide phenomenon affecting the western slope of the municipality of Chieuti is the subject of an agreement between the Government Commissioner for the Hydrogeological Emergency of the Puglia Region and the Department of Civil, Environmental, Land, Construction and Chemical Engineering (DICATECH ) of the Polytechnic of Bari, aimed at the characterization of the evolutionary phenomenologies of the western side of the town of Chieuti (FG), both in static and dynamic conditions.
