In the last years, the Internet of Things (IoT) has played an important revolutionary role in mobile and machine-to-machine communications. The IoT bridges diverse technologies that enable new applications by connecting physical objects in support of intelligent decisions making, changing the quality of human life and the world economy enabling smart homes, industries, and cities. IoT devices increase significantly with the passing of the years as billions of objects are interconnected with each other [13, 17]. On the other hand, the world of the Internet gave the possibility to humans to interact through social networks. Our society is heterogeneous, dynamic and complex by nature but leveraging social relationships, it is possible to exploit the opportunity to form communities based on several factors, such as common interests, influence, needs, etc. The members of the community cooperate to achieve a common goal, such as improving functionality, performance, efficiency, satisfying the required services to solve complex problems.Based on what is told, the Social Internet of Things(SIoT) was born, binding the social network into IoT. The fundamental idea behind this new paradigm is to allow IoT objects to originate relationships independently and autonomously, generating a social network of objects. However, it is indispensable to remark that in SIoT environment, objects must establish their relationships only with other trustworthy and suitable smart objects. Therefore, the concept of Trust Management (TM) appears to be crucial in such context. It aids and keeps SIoT objects resilient to malicious behaviors and attacks fostering trustworthy cooperations in a service-oriented environment. Besides, the state-of-the-art lacks in considering specific trust evaluation metrics for the Trust Management System (TMS). The majority of existing SIoT trustworthiness models focus on Reputation, the community of interest, and honesty-based trust decisions without considering Quality of Service (QoS) trust-based metrics such as the competenceof a node.To close this gap, this thesis work proposes a new strategy and the related metric for the trustworthiness calculation, where the selection of a trustworthy Service Provider (SP)depends on the resource capabilities and the related QoS of a Service Requester (SR)fora specific service.

Abstract
The majority of existing SIoT trustworthiness models focus on Reputation, the community of interest, and honesty-based trust decisions without considering Quality of Service (QoS) trust-based metrics such as the competenceof a node.To close this gap, this thesis work proposes a new strategy and the related metric for the trustworthiness calculation, where the selection of a trustworthy Service Provider (SP)depends on the resource capabilities and the related QoS of a Service Requester (SR)fora specific service.I documenti in UNITESI sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
