Environmental monitoring is a complex but fundamental process for maintaining the environmental quality standards of a territory, promoting resilience, keeping the identity aspects, biodiversity and socio-cultural characteristics of the same. Furthermore, with monitoring it is also possible to plan measures to mitigate the effects of climate change, a phenomenon which is drastically increasing the frequency of extreme events, responsible for innumerable inconveniences for the world population and for the global historical heritage. The objective of this study is to show how a Geographical Information System, abbreviated to GIS, is an essential tool for the right management of the territory, having as its purpose not only the correct and responsible government of the territory, providing promptly updated and ascertained information , but also the ability to inform the entire population, making the system accessible and encouraging collaboration with the relevant bodies, which are often entrusted with the technical management of the territories. In this study, all the phases are reported, from the collection of data, of different nature and typology, to the analysis of the samples obtained, up to the implementation of the same on a geodatabase (GeoDB), in compliance with the criteria described by the laws present in matter (GeoUML Coding), considering the Cilento National Park as a case study. Furthermore, a new coding was created for the information not present, considered essential for the development of the GIS for the management of the Cilento National Park. Lastly, a comparison was made with other similar information systems, in order to develop improvements and new ideas for future studies.
