Abstract

The evolution of railway signalling systems, with the introduction of ERTMS, a Europero standard that ensures the interoperability of railway networks, has enabled the development of increasingly efficient and high-performance railway networks with a higher level of safety. After a brief overview of traditional and modern blocking sites, the thesis focuses on the application case of the Alstom railway project for Ente Autonomo Volturno, explaining the architecture and implementation of a central multi-station interlocking system that manages the entire network and ERTMS level 2. The paper highlights how these innovations represent a virtuous example of infrastructure modernization, emphasizing the importance of technical, operational, and economic aspects for a sustainable and modern service.

ERTMS L2 AND ACC-M INTERLOCKING SYSTEMS: THE ALSTOM RAILWAY PROJECT FOR ENTE AUTONOMO VOLTURNO
