The thesis presented concerns the localization of a user in an indoor environment using VLC technology. Specifically, the goal is to introduce additional techniques to improve the system's coverage. The system consists of an LED at the center of the ceiling that illuminates the room with non-coherent light, and small mirrors called OIRS (Optical Intelligent Reflective Surfaces) on the walls of the room that redirect the light waves to locate the user. Various estimation techniques are used to approximate distances and locations, including Cramér-Rao Lower Bound for distance and precision lower bounds (DEB and PEB), maximum likelihood distance estimation algorithms and its relaxed version that does not take into account the distance dependence of noise (ML and RML), codes for user location approximation and hence least squares localization Leas Squares (LS) and its two derived algorithms Iterative Least Squares and Iterative Weighted Least Squares, both iterative algorithms with a locking condition but differing in their weight matrices, the former corresponding to the identity matrix and the latter taken from the inverse of CRLB. We therefore propose two strategies to improve coverage: the search for the optimal pair of angles alpha and beta of the mirrors that maximize the coverage of the system in which to locate the user, whereby a search code tries a series of carefully selected pairs of angles and then returns the pair with the highest result, which is applied to the original code, or a quadrant search code that divides the surface into 4 quadrants and therefore divides the search into 4 iterations, pointing the mirrors at the center of the relevant quadrant at each iteration.

Abstract
We therefore propose two strategies to improve coverage: the search for the optimal pair of angles alpha and beta of the mirrors that maximize the coverage of the system in which to locate the user, whereby a search code tries a series of carefully selected pairs of angles and then returns the pair with the highest result, which is applied to the original code, or a quadrant search code that divides the surface into 4 quadrants and therefore divides the search into 4 iterations, pointing the mirrors at the center of the relevant quadrant at each iteration.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
