When extracted, the crude oil contains relevant concentration of water that can be found as free water (i.e., water that will settle out rapidly)or in the form of emulsion. An emulsion is a fine dispersion of minute particles of one fluid (the dispersed phase) in others (the continuous phase) in which it is not soluble or miscible (multiphase flow). The emulsions introduce several problem in the production of crude oil. When a emulsion undergoes the action of shearing, crossing of restricted sections, rapid change in the pressure and turbulence, the dispersed phase tentds to split into smaller particles which are more difficult to separate from the continuous phase. This phenomenon is called breakup. The aim of this work is to develop a numerical model which predict the evolution of the properties of a water-in-oil emulsion when it crosses an element that introduces a pressure drop (like a valve) to understand what are the factors that affect the breakup.

Abstract
The aim of this work is to develop a numerical model which predict the evolution of the properties of a water-in-oil emulsion when it crosses an element that introduces a pressure drop (like a valve) to understand what are the factors that affect the breakup.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
