This study aims to bridge the gap between numerical simulations and experimental observations in the realm of fluid dynamics. By investigating the flow behavior around an airfoil in a confined channel, this research addresses the challenges of accurately simulating complex flows and highlights the potential of advanced analysis techniques. Initial efforts involve refining the numerical simulation setup to closely match experimental conditions, accounting for lateral confinement effects. Through meticulous mesh improvement and boundary condition adjustments, the simulation's fidelity is enhanced, leading to results that closely align with experimental data. The focus then shifts to frequency domain analysis, where characteristic frequencies of the flow are identified for both numerical and experimental simulations. A key highlight is the adoption of Spectral Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (SPOD) to extract dominant flow frequencies and associated modes. This novel approach provides a compact representation of flow dynamics, allowing for efficient flow behavior reconstruction. The comparison of SPOD modes between numerical and experimental simulations not only validates the simulation accuracy but also unveils deeper insights into the intricate flow structures. Additionally, this study might also suggest the potential of data assimilation to complement data comparison. The harmonization of numerical simulations and experimental insights may serve as a foundation for exploring data-driven approaches to refine simulation parameters. This approach would possibly enhance simulation accuracy and contribute to a deeper understanding of intricate flow phenomena across various engineering applications.
