This thesis addresses the importance of real-time simulations and co-simulations in engineering systems. The first chapter provides a current state of the art of simulations and co-simulations, describing emerging technologies. In the second chapter, an interface called "Bifrost" is presented that is needed to address the practical challenges of interconnecting simulators and devices with heterogeneous communication protocols. In the third chapter, a monolithic and a distibuted model of a derivation of "Kundur's Two Area System" network model are simulated, where through the addition of a BESS system, an attempt is made to support the re-synchronization of system areas following an abrupt change in load. In the fourth chapter, the results of PHIL simulations and R-PHIL co-simulations are presented, highlighting the effectiveness of the control techniques employed for the BESS system. In conclusion, the advantages of real-time simulations are discussed.

Abstract
In conclusion, the advantages of real-time simulations are discussed.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
