Abstract

In this thesis work, the application of artificial neural networks as a predictive tool for extrusion force in the 3D printing process by Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) is investigated. They were implemented using the Matlab programming language (v. 2021b). Both single- and double-layer neural networks were analysed. They were optimised with the relative mean percent error and Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE) as target parameters. The target is the indivudualisation of a neural network such that the values of relative mean percent error and RMSE, as well as their respective standard deviations, are minimal. It was found that a single-layer network with 64 neurons and a two-layer network with 16+16 neurons guarantee optimal results.

APPLICATION OF NEURAL NETWORKS IN ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING: PREDICTION OF EXTRUSION FORCE IN THE FDM 3D PRINTING PROCESS
