This thesis is part of the energy efficiency improvement program for hospitals, one of the most energy-intensive buildings in the public sector, with average consumption approximately three times higher than that of residential buildings. The study focuses on a hospital located in Venice, for which an energy audit was conducted to identify the main energy consumption issues and evaluate improvement scenarios. The modeling and optimization tool used for the energy system is HOMER, a software program that dynamically simulates the behavior of the building and its systems on an hourly basis throughout the calendar year. This software evaluates the interaction between technologies and renewable energy generation systems, and ranks feasible solutions based on economic indicators.
