This thesis analyses the risks associated with the use of external defibrillators, life-saving devices essential in the treatment of sudden cardiac arrest. The study opens with a review of the literature, providing an overview of defibrillator types, reference standards, and risk management methodologies according to international standards such as ISO 14971. Subsequently, the acceptance, testing and maintenance procedures of the devices are examined in depth, with a specific focus on the ARGUS PRO LifeCare 2 multiparametric defibrillator. The internship experience at ME.DI.COM. s.r.l. made it possible to integrate the theoretical aspects with the practical ones, highlighting the importance of training healthcare workers and compliance with technical regulations. The research continues with the construction and analysis of a dataset of incidents reported to the FDA between 2014 and 2023. Through the use of advanced data cleaning and processing tools, as well as the creation of interpretive graphs using Python, key operational issues and risk trends were identified. In the final chapter, operational tools and practical recommendations are proposed to optimise the management of external defibrillators. Particular attention is paid to the quality of clinical databases and the monitoring of medical errors, with the aim of reducing the risk of adverse events and improving the reliability of life-saving equipment.
