This work addresses the challenge of interpreting machine learning models used to estimate the remaining useful life of aerospace components. The thesis proposes AgnosticExplainer, a post-hoc, model-agnostic Explainable Artificial Intelligence framework that analyzes any model using only its prediction function. The framework integrates Permutation Importance, KernelSHAP, LIME, and PDP/ICE methods and is validated on the NASA CMAPSS FD001 dataset using a sliding-window MLP model. The resulting explanations enable the identification of the most relevant sensors, the understanding of errors in critical instances, and model improvement, reducing the MAE from 15.42 to 13.45 cycles. Additionally, a "block PDP" variant preserves the temporal coherence of features within the sliding window.

Abstract
Additionally, a "block PDP" variant preserves the temporal coherence of features within the sliding window.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
