The building construction sector is undergoing one of the biggest transformations in recent years due to the digital transition. In recent decades, the advent of 3D printing has opened up new applications in the construction field that amplify its potential. Scientific studies on the performance of building components made with this technology are still immature in the literature and for this reason, their full potential is still unknown. This thesis explores the new frontier of 3D printing in construction by explaining the operating technologies, the materials used, the advantages, the disadvantages and the existing applications. In the field of prefabrication, the case of 3D printed bricks is investigated and on the basis of a study conducted at the Polytechnic of Bari, a methodology is proposed with the aim of developing an approach that is able to determine the energy performance of 3D printed clay bricks, characterized by complex internal geometries obtained by parametric modeling. The thesis ends with the commented results of the research work and with the necessary conclusions.
