This study, conducted at SINTEF Ocean in Trondheim as part of the European project WILLOW, focuses on offshore wind systems and examines the impact of downregulation strategies to improve grid stability and reduce structural damages in turbines. A control model was developed by modifying an open-source controller to implement a dynamic power regulation at predefined levels. After gaining proficiency with advanced software such as FLAggTurb, TurbSim.HH2FF, and OpenFAST, simulations were carried out for fatigue analysis, considering loads from turbulence, derating, and marine waves. The results show that the curtailment component plays a significant role, particularly for critical sections such as blade roots, yaw bearings, shafts, and tower bases, contributing to the more reliable design of offshore wind farms.

Abstract
This study, conducted at SINTEF Ocean in Trondheim as part of the European project WILLOW, focuses on offshore wind systems and examines the impact of downregulation strategies to improve grid stability and reduce structural damages in turbines. A control model was developed by modifying an open-source controller to implement a dynamic power regulation at predefined levels. After gaining proficiency with advanced software such as FLAggTurb, TurbSim.HH2FF, and OpenFAST, simulations were carried out for fatigue analysis, considering loads from turbulence, derating, and marine waves. The results show that the curtailment component plays a significant role, particularly for critical sections such as blade roots, yaw bearings, shafts, and tower bases, contributing to the more reliable design of offshore wind farms.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
