The growing interest in electric vehicles has highlighted the need for innovative solutions to address the critical issues related to charging, such as long waiting times and limited accessibility of infrastructure. In this context, battery swap stations (BSS) represent a promising answer, allowing users to quickly exchange discharged batteries for charged ones. One of the main challenges related to this technology concerns the implementation of management processes that ensure efficient and effective operations within the station. To this end, the thesis work proposes an optimization model aimed at identifying the optimal management strategy for a BSS. The model focuses on the operational management of the station, taking into account its capacity, the different charging modes available and the dynamics between battery supply and demand. The objective is to maximize the profit from the supply of charged batteries, while minimizing the operational costs associated with the charging processes. The model incorporates operational constraints and describes the evolution of the battery state over time, regulating the transitions between different charge levels and optimizing the overall energy balance. The numerical results obtained demonstrate the effectiveness of the model in urban scenarios, highlighting a better use of resources, a greater operational efficiency of the stations and a reduction in charging costs. This helps to overcome some of the main barriers to the adoption of this emerging technology.
