All this was carried out in a close collaboration between the advanced manufacturing research group of the KU Leuven Campus De Nayer and the Polytechnic University of Bari, as part of a project with the University of Ghent on the redesign and improvement of the performance of an electric motor, through the printing of a different type of winding for the rotor. The approach used was to create two DoEs, varying two main parameters in the design, to evaluate the effects of sintering on them.

Abstract

The goal of this experimental thesis is to find a way to mitigate the effect of shrinkage misalignment of two different materials molded together, in a single piece, preserving their structural integrity and limiting deformations after sintering. This thesis initially saw a study of the literature, with a general overview of the world of Additive Manufacturing, analyzing the various material extrusion processes and the types of multi-material printing discovered so far, to get to deepen in detail the complete process with the printing, debinding, sintering and related data analysis phases. The approach used was to create two DoEs, varying two main parameters in the design, to evaluate the effects of sintering on them.

OPTIMIZATION OF PRINTING STRATEGY REGARDING SHRINKAGE MISMATCH OF MULTI-MATERIAL COMPONETS FABRICATED WITH MATERIAL EXTRUSION ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING
