The goal of this thesis is the toppological optimization of one piston from the 2011 Red Bull Formula1 single-seater engine. Starting from the FEM analysis of the component the stress distribution was understood. Then part of the piston was cut off based on the results of the topological optimization in order to lighten the piston without compromising the structural integrity. Another FEM analysis was the executed in order to validate the new geometry.
