This thesis focuses on the performance-based assessment of fire safety, using the principles of Fire Safety Engineering (FSE) and taking the Politecnico di Bari as a case study. By combining BIM modelling with the simulation software PyroSim/FDS and Pathfinder, the study examines how a fire develops, how environmental conditions become less safe over time, and how people behave during evacuation. Life safety is assessed by comparing the Available Safe Egress Time (ASET) with the Required Safe Egress Time (RSET) for different university spaces and fire scenarios. The analysis is then extended to the overall evacuation of the building blocks, in order to identify the main areas of congestion and evaluate how the escape system performs as a whole. Based on the critical issues identified, different design solutions are finally developed and compared, with the aim of reducing evacuation times and improving the distribution of people along the escape routes.

Abstract
This thesis focuses on the performance-based assessment of fire safety, using the principles of Fire Safety Engineering (FSE) and taking the Politecnico di Bari as a case study. Based on the critical issues identified, different design solutions are finally developed and compared, with the aim of reducing evacuation times and improving the distribution of people along the escape routes.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
