The application of Additive Manufacturing (L-PBF) in the food industry requires compliance with MOCA requirements for hygienic safety, making the control of surface roughness crucial. This study, conducted in collaboration with Elfim S.r.l., evaluates the effectiveness of a sequence of post-processing treatments (milling, microblasting, and electropolishing) applied to AISI 316L stainless steel components manufactured via L-PBF. The results demonstrate that the combined sequence reduces the average surface roughness from the as-built condition to 0.75 μm, meeting the reference hygienic threshold of Ra < 0.8 μm. Statistical process control (X-R charts) confirms process stability, although the Cpk index (+0.062) highlights the need for further parameter optimization to increase the manufacturing tolerance margin.

Abstract
Statistical process control (X-R charts) confirms process stability, although the Cpk index (+0.062) highlights the need for further parameter optimization to increase the manufacturing tolerance margin.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
