Puglia possesses an artistic, artisanal, and traditional heritage that is internationally recognized yet internally and structurally fragile. Over the last decade, the number of artisan businesses has steadily declined; as workshops close, they take with them a form of "know-how" that is difficult to recover. Consequently, the sector struggles to translate its cultural and identity-based value into economic value recognized by the market. The analysis aims to understand where and to what extent the sector is eroding, and, above all, which supply chains are most exposed and hardest hit. It also seeks to determine whether sufficient economic data exists to guide potential investors in choosing one supply chain over another for the "Arts and Trades Schools 2.0" pilot project. The focus of the analysis is not on production itself, but rather on the surrounding processes, such as promotion, demand management, distribution, and, crucially, value enhancement. The analysis follows a sequential approach: it begins with an assessment of the system "as-is" (examining the key players and processes involved) and proceeds to a quantitative analysis based on data from Movimprese-Infocamere, INPS, and Confartigianato regarding the wood, textile, ceramics, and wrought iron supply chains. The decline recorded in each supply chain is then cross-referenced and compared with another significant factor: the maturity of institutional value-enhancement mechanisms. This yields a priority matrix, which is subsequently compared against economic data from ISTAT, the Tagliacarne Study Center, ARTI, and Unioncamere data sets analyzed across three distinct levels due to the differing populations covered by each source. Finally, the analysis identifies a vicious cycle in which the fragmentation of operators, the lack of structured demand management, seasonality, and the absence of a strategy or tool for enhancing value all reinforce one another, contributing to the sector's decline as observed in the quantitative analysis. Between 2014 and 2024, the number of artisan businesses in Puglia fell by 9.8%, while artistic craft sectors saw losses ranging from 20.7% (ceramics alone) to 36.2% (wood alone), rates two to four times higher than that of the sector as a whole. Compounding this situation is the increasingly rare and unstructured nature of generational turnover. The findings indicate that the wood and textile sectors are most at risk and require the most urgent intervention; however, from an economic standpoint, none of the statistics analyzed officially isolate the value of the artistic craft sector alone. Where "raw" data is available, productivity in Puglia remains well below the Italian average, with a widening gap. Given the state of these economic data, the analysis does not provide a single answer but rather presents three possibilities for evaluation, each with its own pros and cons. Ultimately, without structured and adequate processes to enhance their value, "Arts and Trades Schools 2.0" risk having no students to train, despite offering valid and appropriate educational programs.
