This thesis focuses on the structural analysis of the rear wheel hub of the Formula Student PC-6 Levante car, designed and built by the Poliba Corse team at the Polytechnic University of Bari. The study begins with a critical reconstruction of the component’s operating conditions based on the vehicle’s dynamic parameters, which were used to define eight load cases representative of braking, cornering, acceleration, and vertical impact maneuvers. From this set, the conditions that actually determine the design parameters were selected using a dominance criterion. The component was then modeled using the finite element method in COMSOL Multiphysics, verifying its stress state and the corresponding safety factors, with independent analytical verification of the numerical results. The investigation is complemented by a modal analysis aimed at identifying the structure’s natural frequencies and comparing them with the excitation frequencies expected during operation. The results highlight some critical issues in the original design documentation and provide useful guidance for future revisions of the component. Translated with DeepL.com (free version)
