This thesis analyzes the aerodynamic behavior of two vehicles in a platoon configuration using two open-source software packages, OpenFOAM and ParaView. The first chapter provides the theoretical background: the governing equations of fluid motion, the turbulence modeling approach and the definition of the aerodynamic coefficients used in the analysis. The second chapter describes the geometry of the body, the inter-vehicle spacings, the computational domain and mesh, the boundary conditions, and the numerical setup, with the mesh visualized in ParaView. The third chapter discusses the simulation results, analyzing the pressure and velocity fields, the y+ distribution, and the main aerodynamic coefficients, to evaluate how the aerodynamic behavior of the vehicles changes as the distance between vehicles is reduced. The final chapter summarizes the main results and the limitations of the study and suggests possible directions for future research.

Abstract
The final chapter summarizes the main results and the limitations of the study and suggests possible directions for future research.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
