This thesis examines lightning strikes and atmospheric overvoltages, addressing their physical characteristics, their effects on electrical systems, and the main standard (CEI EN 62305) used for lightning risk assessment. It discusses the external (LPS) and internal (SPD) protection systems that can be adopted to reduce the risk. Finally, it presents a case study on the Vincenzo Lilla High School in Oria, analyzing the building's lightning risk and identifying the most suitable protection measures to integrate into the existing electrical system.
