Bioclimatic buildings are a fundamental and sustainable response to the global challenges of urbanisation and climate change, especially at a time when the world's population is growing and natural resources are becoming increasingly limited. This innovative and responsible approach to building design and construction aims to maximise energy efficiency by making intelligent use of the environment's natural resources. It is widely recognised that the integration of passive systems in a building can have a significant impact on its energy efficiency and the comfort of its occupants, and that this effectiveness can vary depending on the surrounding climatic context. However, passive systems do not always guarantee improved comfort in the home. In particular, "in regions characterised by hot and humid climates, problems may arise in the application of such systems. High temperatures combined with high humidity levels make passive cooling strategies ineffective, as the climatic conditions are thermally unfavourable" (Guzmán-Hernández et al., 2023). In more temperate climates, for example, passive systems can provide a comfortable indoor temperature with less effort, whereas in areas with extreme climatic conditions, active systems may be necessary. This study will analyse in depth the efficiency of passive systems in two different climate zones, Helsinki and Lecce, using Alvar Aalto's house as a case study. Using the "Climate Consultant" software, the climatic characteristics of the two sites will be examined in detail using .epw files that can be downloaded from the Energy Plus website. Then, using the "Design Builder" software, a 3D model of the building with its construction specifications will be created, allowing modifications such as optimal orientation, improved ventilation and insulation of the building envelope. To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed solutions, simulations will be carried out throughout the year using the same software, analysing the hours of comfort achieved with the implementation of the changes made.
